Стандартно WW2 Bulgarian Reconstruction

Hallo!

I wanted to share my WW2 reconstruction, since I think I am one of only people who do it outside Bulgaria. I try to convince a few others to start small group sometime. Unfortunately my Bulgarian is not good enough to post in the regular sections.

Kandidat Podofitser of 59th Pirinski Infantry Regiment/16th Infantry Division, Spring 1945.

Several photos from a recent WW2 historical event and front/back view of the uniform, which was very altered from postwar tunic by a tailor from details from Vachkov and looking at 100s of period photos.

yes, I see this section not as active as the others.

My Bulgarian very poor, so that I must use translator to help. Not sure, if that would be understood in other forum sections or if it would cause misunderstandings...

I'would ask you for more pictures of the zeltbahn you have. Does it have buttons or the pictures deceive me?

Hi Pereto!

thanks! The Zeltbahn has buttons, which appear to be zinc, they are flatter than German version. The grommets are brass. I can take more photos later, if there are other specific features, that you want see.

this zeltbahn is from the type that Стефкиш show in the tread : http://www.traditsia.com/forum/showt...?t=5690&page=2
it is indeed made under the M31 german model for Bulgarian army here, alongside with square model which was wider spread.
At the begining I was thinking it might be WW 1 model. Which is not the case.

Thanks! Since I not want to be intrusive on the Bulgarian language section, is ok to right Bulgarian translation above and English below, in case my Bulgarian (mostly with help from translator tool) is not very clear?

The full marching order...

Greetings, it's always nice to see people interested in our military history, especially when this takes place abroad. You've managed to equip yourself well, a sign of both effort and diligence.However, I'd like to make a few corrections:
1. The entrenching tool should be worn with the handle downwards; It was worn with the handle facing up only by the engineers and machine-gun crews.
2. The "podofitseri", or NCOs, had specific elements in the equipment, which the enlisted men didn't. The belt for example, was with a square cast copper buckle, with the coat of arms at front and the motto beneath it - "Вярност и Постоянство" - "Loyalty and Perseverance". T
The Mannlicher M95 bayonet had a quillon and a ring on the pommel for a troddel.
3. An unusual way of attaching the helmet to the rucksack. Typically it was held in place by the chinstrap, put underneath the mess kit and fastened on the other side.

I appreciate help to improve, but I am not sure, if these criticisms are necessarily incorrect. I try to carefully research and have at least several photos to support everything I do.

For prewar/early war times, I see this, but most photos from 1944/45 in field show shovels pointed up, even for regular infantry. Not all appear to be machinegunners or engineers. I have seen fewer photos from this time with shovels pointed down.

I know, that podofitseri have different equipment, but this is not podofitser rank, it is кандидат подофицер. I thought this rank was not yet podofitser. Photos seem to show them with enlisted belts and bayonets and other equipments.

In second photo, there are ranks of feldfebel, podofitser and kandidat podofitser. Notice the different belts, the kandidat podofitser on far right have enlisted belt for example.

It use a helmet carrier, which seem rare piece of equipment. I copied this from several photos, one is early 40s training exercise and others 1945 Hungary.

I wouldn't qualify my comment as criticism; mere piece of advice;
The кандидат-подофицер is a part of the NCO "class", in spite of the adjective "кандидат". The equipment I described, was the one stated in the regulations. The expansion of the army that took place after the Versailles restrictions were lifted in the mid 30s caused a shortage in uniformity, in terms of pouches, rucksacks, even rifles, when the old patters were brought out from storage; which is illustrated in the above-mentioned photos.Even the two soldiers without helmets on their rucksacks in the middle from the last photo are actually carrying a WWI type. However, I can't remember seeing a NCO, even a junior form, without a NCO bayonet;
Now, regarding the shovels, the problem with periodic photos is that it is hard to be certain whether the pictured soldiers are engineers or common infantry, even artillery, if the actual cannons aren't also present. Also, different rules applied when on the frontline...
It is good to see that these features are backed up by actual evidence, and under the specific circumstances, especially after the involvement of the Bulgarian army in the military operations of WWII, functionality and fullness of equipment became much more important, but still these are exceptions and deviations.
